IAN Fleming's James Bond films over the last 50 years have been a huge success worldwide. I have been a fan of Ian Fleming's creation since a kid and still they keep me on the edge of my seat.
My favourite James Bond star and the best Bond ever is the legendary Sean Connery. The world seemed to fall in love with him as James Bond. There was a key scene early in the 1962 debut Dr No in which he is at the gambling table immaculately dressed in a dinner jacket. An elegant looking woman asks him "And you are?" The camera follows his fingers from a silver cigarette case to his mouth as he lights up and the first words cinema audiences heard coming from his lips were "Bond......James Bond". Sean Connery, 6ft 2ins tall with slick dark hair and a cruel mouth was a particularly handsome man in those days and wore his glamour well. He looked as if he really did shoot to kill. Connery's Bond won the respect of men and the admiration of most women.
One thing is for sure, as English actor Daniel Craig has now made his name as the new 007 James Bond, he knows that however good his performance, he will not shoot down memories of the past. The years have moved on and he may be grouchy but Sean Connery, in my opinion, will always be the best. So let's all salute the great man himself and the great man who created James Bond, Ian Fleming.
